It was published on 30 December 1799 and was the only typeface of its time to use an old style design with a true serif and a humanistic, non-classical hand. FontspXL Passanun is an early transitional serif typeface from the late eighteenth century. Marc-Antoine Porcheron was part of a group called 'The Controversialists'. The Controversialists were a group of seven people who would meet weekly to discuss literature and philosophy. FontspXL Passanun is a typeface that was created to represent the ideals of this group. There are a few distinguishing features of FontspXL Passanun. Firstly, it has a true serif. There are many false serifs from this period, but FontspXL Passanun is one of the first true serifs from France. This design set the foundations for later fonts such as Jean Jannon's Bodoni and Didot designs, and William Caslon's designs in England. The other feature is its hand-written style. It is a transitional typeface that bridges the gap between calligraphy and typography while retaining humanistic qualities that were going out of fashion at this point in time. The font has three variations, regular, italic and passanun. There are 5 different styles, regular, bold, italic, light and bold italic. It also has two weights plus an additional weight called 'ripolin', which is similar to the medium weight of other fonts. FontspXL Passanun has a single width that is condensed with a height of between 8-12 units. FontspXL Passanun was used to create many newspapers in France including Le Constitutionel in 1799 by François Laquelle. cfa1e77820
